communities
Kitsap's distinct communities make the area appealing to a diverse population. No matter where you live or work, you'll find neighbors who are friendly, family-oriented, and embrace community to the fullest extent.

Bloedel Reserve
Bainbridge Island
Bainbridge Island was incorporated as a city in 1993, and is a much-watched Northwestern experiment in creating a rural city—a place where fiber optics, strawberry farmers, llamas, and a highly-educated citizenry can live side by side. Bainbridge Island is a place where much of the movie 'Disclosure' was filmed, where nationally acclaimed authors abound, and where home-based businesses are growing at high-tech speed.

It's a place where locals debate just about everything from politics to fossil preservation and where a number of international celebrities find the solace and distance they need for a "real" life. Bainbridge Island's communities include Lynwood and Rolling Bay.

Olympics behind Bremerton
Bremerton

The county's largest city, Bremerton is home of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) and the Bremerton Naval Museum. Along the downtown waterfront promenade you can visit the Navy destroyer, USS Turner Joy, and enjoy seasonal community events and concerts.

Today, the city's central waterfront is being revitalized through a public-private partnership project that is creating new shopping, living, and entertainment centers. A new, multi-modal transportation center has been built for Washington State Ferries, which has been connecting the peninsula to Seattle for more than a century. Bremerton's neighboring communities include Tracyton and Brownsville.

Kingston Ferry
Kingston
Kingston, a former logging town, is a busy port of entry, with frequent ferry runs to Edmonds on the other side of Puget Sound and passenger ferry service to Seattle.

Kingston's Saturday Farmers Market is popular with both locals and boaters. The annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July features an old fashioned logging competition, parade, salmon bake, and craft fair.

Port Orchard City Hall
Port Orchard
The commercial center for South Kitsap and the governmental hub of the county, Port Orchard is the county seat and also home to one of Puget Sound's largest marinas, owned and operated by the Port of Bremerton.

A historic port discovered and named by early Puget Sound explorers, the community is completely oriented toward the water with miles of winding, scenic roadways passing beautiful inlets and hidden coves.

Port Orchard's neighboring communities include McCormick Woods, Manchester, Olalla, and Southworth.

Downtown Poulsbo
Poulsbo
This quaint, Norwegian-heritage fishing village has blossomed into a tourism mecca of shops, right next door to high-tech businesses. One of the Pacific Northwest's premier land developers and a 'destination supermarket' that many shoppers consider the best food store in the Puget Sound region are both here.

Poulsbo boasts a well-maintained and busy marina, beautifully appointed bed and breakfast establishments, and a number of international company branch offices. Poulsbo is a very busy crossroads where a number of the scenic Kitsap Peninsula byways meet and lead directly to the rainforests of the Olympic Peninsula, the ferry routes from Kingston and Bainbridge Island, or the historic community of Port Gamble.

Poulsbo's neighboring communities include Hansville, Indianola, Suquamish, and Port Gamble.

Silverdale Waterfront
Silverdale
Although unincorporated, Silverdale is a thriving commercial and retail center, not just for Kitsap, but serving most of the adjacent Olympic Peninsula as well. Its hub is the Kitsap Mall, built in 1985, and surrounded today by hundreds of other retail and service businesses.

The busy pace of Silverdale, located centrally in the county's geography, has generated new homes, new entertainment, and new opportunities for both employment and business activity.

Silverdale's neighboring communities include Bangor, Holly, Keyport, Seabeck, and Union.
