The US Department of Commerce has designated more than 500 acres of land in Kitsap County, at the Port of Bremerton’s industrial park and at Bremerton National Airport, as part of Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) 216.
Updated FTZ Map as of August 2011
Companies doing business within an FTZ enjoy several benefits:
-
Firms will pay no tariffs on any imported raw materials used in those products when the products are shipped overseas.
-
If these products are sold in the U.S., companies pay duty only when the product is shipped and only on the amount of foreign materials that went into the product, not the waste.
-
Foreign and domestic goods may be processed or stored without payment of customs duties and without application of certain other regulations normally applied to customs entries.
-
Materials may be juggled, reassembled, repackaged, manipulated, processed, used in manufacture, or stored in the Foreign Trade Zone.
