A point-of-presence (POP) on the Internet has been installed by EMBARQ in Poulsbo, making this area competitive with major metropolitan areas, and Embarq has provided ISDN services to business in the Poulsbo region at reduced rates. EMBARQ (formerly Sprint) has upgraded the Poulsbo area switching equipment with a 10 Gb, OC 192 switch that utilizes diverse fiber routes within our territory and creates a self healing protection system in the event of a fiber cut. The system will automatically reroute traffic, providing continuous uninterrupted service, which is an asset for area businesses. The speed and reliability of this new service platform represents a significant advantage in attracting and retaining businesses in Poulsbo, something our competitors cannot offer.
Qwest and CenturyTel are getting in the game with DSL services throughout the county. Comcast and Wave Broadband have entered the high-speed Internet services market here with some of the most advanced infrastructure in the area. The county now has 100% high-speed internet capability.
