Economy, economic development

Honoring leadership that has shaped Kitsap County’s economic strength—past, present, and future.

The Kitsap Economic Development Alliance (KEDA) is proud to recognize three outstanding leaders as our 2026 Economic Champions—individuals whose dedication and vision have made a lasting impact on Kitsap County.

These awards were presented during KEDA’s Annual Meeting & Economic Forecast on April 2, hosted at the stunning Clearwater Casino Resort, where community and business leaders gathered to reflect on the region’s progress and look ahead to its economic future.

This year, we are especially honored to recognize John Powers, KEDA’s Executive Director from 2011 to 2020, whose leadership helped shape the organization and region as we know it today.

During his tenure, John Powers played a pivotal role in strengthening public-private partnerships, advancing regional collaboration, and driving economic growth across Kitsap County. His steady leadership and commitment to long-term strategy helped position the region for continued investment, job creation, and resilience.

In addition to honoring John’s legacy, KEDA is proud to celebrate two other remarkable leaders:

Chad Melton is recognized for his outstanding leadership and commitment to advancing economic vitality in Kitsap County. His work in workforce development, regional investment, and expanding access to quality healthcare has created new opportunities and strengthened the community’s future.

Luther Jay Mills is honored for a lifetime of leadership and service to the Suquamish Tribe and Kitsap County. His contributions to tribal governance, economic development, and cultural preservation have had a profound and lasting impact on the region.

Together, these Economic Champions represent the collaborative spirit and forward-thinking leadership that continue to drive Kitsap County forward. KEDA is proud to recognize their contributions and celebrate the enduring impact they have made on our community.
