New ED will be first for MultiCare in Kitsap County

PRESS RELEASE:

TACOMA, Wash. — MultiCare Health System broke ground today on a new 10,500-square-foot neighborhood emergency department in Bremerton.

The new facility, at 5900 State Highway 303 Northeast, will address the needs of the community and increase access to care.

MultiCare Emergency – Bremerton will feature 12 rooms and on-site radiology services, including X-ray, ultrasound, and CT scans. The emergency department will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will be staffed by board-certified emergency physicians.

“There’s a critical need for more emergency medical services in Kitsap County,” said Eddie Bratko, president of MultiCare Tacoma General and MultiCare Allenmore hospitals. “When medical facilities on the Kitsap Peninsula reach capacity, residents travel to Tacoma, Seattle or surrounding areas for care. Providing more emergency services close to home will save time and save lives.”

Neighborhood emergency departments are designed to provide prompt, comprehensive care for a wide range of illnesses and injuries. Patients can be seen, treated and discharged in far less time than at a traditional larger hospital.

The Bremerton facility will operate under Tacoma General Hospital’s license. Projected opening of the new emergency department is 2025.

This will be MultiCare’s sixth neighborhood emergency department in Washington state through a partnership with Texas-based Emerus Holding Inc. Emerus is a leader in developing and operating small-format hospitals and acute-care facilities.

MultiCare opened neighborhood emergency departments in Parkland and Bonney Lake in 2019, South Hill in 2020, Federal Way in 2021 and Lacey in 2023.
