BREMERTON – Restored Washington State Ferries service in Bremerton appears to yet be months away. Could Kitsap Transit help to fill some of the gaps in the sailing schedule with added fast ferry service? A collection of officials in Kitsap are making a pitch.

The state's Bremerton-Seattle route has operated on a limited schedule with only one boat assigned to the crossing for about a year. Washington State Ferries has pointed to staffing shortages and has reported that the route won’t likely be restored to regular service until spring 2023.

Local officials – including the mayors of Kitsap’s cities, county commissioners, some of the state lawmakers representing Kitsap and Kitsap Transit’s executive director – have sent a letter asking Gov. Jay Inslee to direct funding to Kitsap Transit so the agency could bolster the schedule on its Bremerton-Seattle fast ferry route and bring some additional service to Bremerton temporarily.
