Poulsbo, WA – September 9, 2024 – The American Public Works Association (APWA) is proud to announce that the City of Poulsbo won APWA’s 2024 Public Works Project of the Year Award. Award winners publicly developed, owned, and maintained infrastructure projects that promote excellence in construction management and administration. These awards recognize the alliance between the managing agency, the contractor, the consultant, and their cooperative achievements.
The City earned APWA’s 2024 Public Works Project of the Year Award in the Small Cities/Rural Communities category, in the Transportation division. The City of Poulsbo completed the $20.5 million project to serve the City of Poulsbo's east urban area and provide a regional connection for the City and North Kitsap County between State Route 305 and Lincoln Road, ensuring public safety and promoting regional economic vitality, quality of life, the importance of the environment, and the diversity of citizens through essential public infrastructure. The project included a new roundabout at SR 305, a new and improved roadway connecting to Noll Road, a non-motorized tunnel crossing under SR 305, a newly constructed shared-use path, stunning native artwork, a beautiful art installation and Welcome sign at the roundabout, removal of a fish barrier on Bjorgen Creek, and construction, restoration, and enhancement of 2.5 acres of wetlands. The primary contractor for this project was Active Construction, Inc (ACI) and the primary consultant was Parametrix. The City partnered with WSDOT for Construction Administration and also partnered with our neighbors, Kitsap County and Kitsap Transit to make this project happen.
“Recognizing the 2024 APWA Projects of the Year award winners is an honor. This year’s award recipients have shown what happens when you fulfill your commitment to making your community a better place,” said APWA President Gary Losier, PE. “Public works professionals do so many things to advance the quality of life for all, and they don’t always receive the recognition they deserve. That’s what makes our Project of the Year celebrations at PWX in Atlanta so exciting and rewarding.”
The City was recognized by APWA at the PWX National Convention at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA on September 9. 2024.
“Each year APWA receives hundreds of entries for our Project of the Year Awards. The most amazing part of the selection process is getting to see all of the great projects taking place in North America. These projects, whether selected or not, are all directed at improving the quality of life for all of our communities. I wish to congratulate each of this year’s honorees!” said APWA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Scott D. Grayson, CAE.
Awards are won in four divisions and five categories. The divisions are (1) projects less than $5 million; (2) projects of $5 million, but less than $25 million; (3) projects of $25 million to $75 million; and (4) projects of more than $75.
